Displaying OS Grid References in Bing Maps
Since Bing Maps took over Multimap, a few users have been concerned that you no longer get the British National Grid Reference displayed on Bing Maps.
Fortunately, the calculations necessary to derive grid references are very well documented by the Ordnance Survey, and the excellent Movable-Type site has already done the hard work of converting these calculations into javascript.
This makes the job of retrieving OSGB National Grid coordinates from Bing Maps pretty straightforward, as shown in the map below; Move the cursor over the map, and the current latitude/longitude and grid reference will be displayed underneath.
Note: Zoom in a few levels for the OS tile overlay to appear - it only starts at the 1:50,000 scale
